Business Boosting Early Learning Program (BBEL)
What is BBEL?
BBEL is a volunteer program that matches volunteers from the business community with early learning centers.
The program is a partnership between Beginning with Books, Pittsburgh Association for the Education of Young Children, and the United Way of Allegheny County.
How does it work?
Volunteers in this program have the opportunity to volunteer in two ways:
Read with Children: Volunteers who choose this option are provided 40 brand new hardcover books chosen by the experts at Beginning with Books to read with children. Each time they visit their site, the volunteers leave the book they read and the site begins to build a library of new books. This option is open to individual volunteers, as well as a group of volunteers from the same company who would like to “adopt” a site.
Business Help and Support: Volunteers provide valuable assistance to early learning centers that may need help in specific business oriented fields. They share their expertise in areas such as developing business plans, budgeting, establishing human resources policies, and technological assistance among others. This experience can range from a one time mentoring session to an ongoing partnership. Your expertise can help the childcare centers establish the sound business practices needed to sustain quality care.
Volunteers can also choose both options.
